What Is MECP?
The Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) program is a certification program for installation technicians of mobile electronics and aftermarket automotive equipment. MECP is the only nationally recognized program that certifies mobile electronics installation technicians and sales people on the installation techniques and capabilities of automotive information technology, entertainment, navigation and safety/security systems.
MECP Masters Through North America MECP Master Installation Technicians assume the highest degree of expertise of aftermarket equipment and installation. Masters are required to hold a current Advanced Installation Technician Certification and three years of on-the-job experience. Contact us to locate an MECP Master in your area.
Why Is MECP Important for Consumers?
The MECP program is designed to provide a higher level of professionalism in the mobile electronics installation field. Using an MECP technician provides you with the peace of mind that the technology in your vehicle is being serviced or installed by a qualified industry professional.
The technology featured in many of today's new cars is alluring, but purchasing a new car isn't the only way to incorporate new features. Many new technologies can be added to your existing vehicle, to include marine, automotive and powersports, and it is important to make sure they are installed correctly. MECP professionals are tasked with learning new technologies as well as best practices for all facets of mobile electronics installation. How to Verify MECP Credentials
Ask to see your salesperson's or technician's credentials to ensure that the tech products you add to your vehicle — such as entertainment, navigation, safety and security systems — are installed by MECP professionals.
Because MECP certifies the individual, not the store, here’s what you should look for:
Ask to see the individual’s MECP certificate – most professionals post theirs for customers to see.
Each MECP certified professional has a license number unique to them (i.e. CEAxxxxxx).
Check the expiration date to ensure the certification is current.
If you would like to have an individual’s certification verified, email MECP with the following information:
Name of professional
City/State
CEA License Number
(Optional) Name of Business
